Lucy Dynamite #9.9.9

She lives and breathes roller derby to the point that she goes only by her derby name, Lucy Dynamite. Born on November 29th, her fearless nature may be attributed to the stars, her zodiac sign none other than Sagittarius. Her derby number is 9.9.9, and she plays what she calls the “yelly blocker” position for the OSRDA’s Candy Strykers team.

lucy d yaLucy Dynamite has been involved in roller derby for the past two and a half years. She dreams for the day when the vivacious sport crosses the threshold to the X-Games. She would also “like [roller derby] to keep its indie spirit” and “would love to see it everywhere, but to retain its individual energy.”

When asked to describe her team, Lucy says, “I love my team! This is gearing up to be an amazing season, and I am challenged and hurt and push myself to my limits because of the girls I play with. I enjoy every single practice.” Describing her biggest accomplishments, Lucy says, “I feel like every day that I get to push myself through fears and 'can'ts' is an accomplishment.”

On October 20th, 2012 the OSRDA’s all-star team, the Raggedy Rollers played the Kootenay Kannibelles. Unfortunately, the Raggedys did not win, but they played hard even though the Kannibelles were ranked second in Western Canada.

Lucy’s only tattoo so far is very sentimental for her. She had a hummingbird done to represent a friend who passed away when she was 17. She says she is working on three more tattoos to be done yet this year. The motto Lucy lives by is one that has the ability to resonate in us all: "In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away" by Shing Xiong.
